How to Balance Your Chakras Using Yoga

Have you been feeling a bit more sluggish than usual, like you can’t seem to get energized? Or maybe your confidence hasn’t quite been what it usually is, and it’s been more challenging for you to put yourself out there.

When there’s something off, you can feel it – but it takes time to learn where the discomfort or tension might be coming from.

Often, when something seems amiss within your spirit, it’s because one or more of your chakras are unaligned or blocked, which can cause us to feel foggy, insecure, irritable, or any manner of negative emotion.

When energy gets stuck or stagnant within the body, there isn’t a proper energy flow within your spirit. And a lack of flow can have some unwelcomed consequences.

But the beauty of self-care is that we can often combine two of our favorite practices to create one ultra-healing experience. For instance, did you know that certain yoga poses can help you balance your chakras?

That’s right. You can get your chakras back in order and flowing properly while you’re practicing your morning flow!

So, keep reading if you want to know more about combining the healing powers of yoga and chakra healing for the ultimate in self-care.

7 Yoga Poses that Balance the 7 Chakras

There are seven major chakras in the body, and fortunately, there are also poses that correspond to and help heal each chakra.

The Root Chakra

The first chakra is the Root chakra, located in the base of the spine, and one of the best poses to loosen and open up the Root is child’s pose. The child’s pose is simple enough – resting your feet under your sit bones and folding over your knees with your arms out in front of you, slowly lowering your forehead to the floor beneath.

This pose activates the helps and helps the Root chakra blossom, increasing security, feelings of stability, and strength.

The Sacral Chakra

Second up is the Sacral chakra, located between the base of the spine and the navel, near the groin. To open this chakra, we need a pose like goddess pose:

  • Place your feet wide apart, wider than your hips, and place your feet turned outward.
  • Slowly and deeply bend your knees parallel to the floor.
  • Ensure that your knees are directly over the center of your feet and your shoulders stacked above the hips.
  • Lengthen the spine, bring the hands to the heart, and breathe deeply.

Balancing the Sacral chakra increases creativity, sensuality, and emotional stability.

The Solar Plexus Chakra

The third is the Solar Plexus chakra, located between the spine and the navel in the center of the stomach.

To balance this chakra, focus on poses like plank pose. Most of us are familiar with this pose, and while you may not like it – in fact, many of us despise this pose after more than a minute – it not only strengthens the core but also opens the Solar Plexus chakra and allows it to flow freely.

Balancing the Solar Plexus increases confidence and willpower.

The Heart Chakra

The fourth chakra is the Heart chakra, located in the center of the chest. Upward facing dog Pose is one of the best poses to open and heal the Heart chakra, and you can transition from plank pose to upward facing dog relatively easily.

Simply lower yourself down slowly until your chest touches the ground and lift your head back up with your heart pointed towards the sky. Breathe in love and light.

Balancing the Heart chakra amplifies compassion, empathy, and self-love.

The Throat Chakra

The Throat chakra is the fifth chakra, located in the center of the neck, and while not technically a single yoga pose, neck rolls are the best yogic practice to open this chakra. That’s right, simply rolling and stretching your neck can allow the Throat chakra to clear up and begin flowing properly again!

When the Throat chakra is balanced and flowing, it’s easier for you to express yourself and communicate openly and honestly with those around you.

The Third Eye Chakra

In the sixth position is the Third Eye chakra, located in the center of the forehead, just above the brows.

A great yogic pose for healing this chakra is candle gazing or trataka.

Simply place a candle on the front of your yoga mat, light it, and sit comfortably at the other end of your mat. Gaze at the flame of the candle and imagine cleansing, healing light surrounding your Third Eye chakra.

When this chakra is balanced, you’ll feel more attuned to your intuition and ability to clearly perceive the world around you.

The Crown Chakra

The seventh and final of the major chakras is the Crown chakra, located at the very top of your head.

To balance this chakra, we’ll give you a beginner pose and a pose that you can work up to if you’re not comfortable yet. For beginners, try the corpse pose, which is simply lying flat on your back with your hands resting at your side.

For those who are more advanced, the headstand is one of the most effective for clearing and healing the Crown chakra.

When this chakra is healed, you can enjoy a clear head and a deeper connection to your spiritual center.

Balance Your Chakras With Yoga

Try taking these poses and creating your very own vinyasa to practice each morning! You can greet each day with a limber body and balanced chakras for harmonious, positive energy.

As you can see, maintaining chakra health is important for each aspect of your being, from self-confidence to self-control, from creativity to confidence, and everything in between. And we’re lucky enough to be able to incorporate yoga – an ancient healing art – into our chakra balancing routine!

So, stretch those limbs, balance those chakras, and start living your daily life with positivity and exuberance. What will you do with all that uplifting energy?
