Best Yoga Poses to Heal Your Heart

Best Yoga Poses to Heal Your Heart

Our heart chakra is the area linked to self acceptance, compassion, love, relationships, harmony and peace. It is also the area of your body which has the strongest electromagnetic field. The vibes we are giving off will really be felt through this chakra which is why we want to clear it of all negativity.

We want to offer people uplifting vibes and healing your heart chakra is a great way to help people get all those cozy feelings when they are around you. When our heart is guarded it’s because we have emotions of guilt or sadness and we are not going to experience depth in our personal relationships.

If you feel scared or raw from a past relationship with someone or something hard that you experienced, start practicing these heart opening exercises.

I’d like to mention something very important here. Healing your heart doesn’t necessarily mean you automatically get into a new relationship, it’s more about the relationship you have with yourself. These exercises are intended to help you forgive yourself, accept yourself and yes love yourself.

Then you can start loving others more freely and accepting love from others. These poses can be practiced daily and do be patient as your body gets used to them.

Activating this area usually attracts people into your life but it’s still important to proceed with patience to see if someone you attract is a worthwhile relationship. Expect people to show up and put them through rigorous tests of compassion and see if they are the person they seem.

Basically, don’t be surprised when people start showing up after you do these exercises and please don’t feel lucky just because someone likes you. Keep your standards of personal integrity high because that person is not going to fill any feelings of loneliness, only a direct relationship with your soul and your purpose can do that.

Upward Facing Dog

  • Begin laying on your stomach and place your hands under your shoulders.
  • Untuck your toes so the tops of your feet are on the ground behind you with your legs zipped together.
  • Slowly raise your chest and keep your lower abdomen muscles pulling in to protect your lower back.
  • Bring your shoulders down away from your ears.
  • Take five deep breaths through your nose slowly to send oxygen to the cells in your chest.
  • Imagine your heart opening as you stretch your chest and release negative emotions.
  • Slowly lower back to your stomach and rest.
  • Repeat this exercise about six times daily.

Camel Pose

Come to standing on your knees with your legs only as wide as your hips.

  • Place your palms on your lower back.
  • Lift your sternum and tuck your chin slightly as you lean back.
  • Keep your hips in line with your knees instead of letting them move back.
  • Maybe do this facing a wall and try keeping your hips on the wall.
  • If you have the flexibility you can reach your hands, one at a time, to your heels.
  • Keep your chest lifted and breathe five slow deep breaths through your nose.
  • Then bring your hands back to your lower back and slowly come up.
  • Repeat this pose five times.
  • In between each one sit on your heels and tilt your pelvis back to counter the pose in your spine.
  • You may need to build up to reaching your heels.

Listen to your body and don’t push too hard.

Dancer’s Pose

This is a standing pose that you can do near a wall for extra balance.

  • Begin with your feet together and bend your right knee.
  • Reach your right hand back and grab the inside of your foot.
  • Begin to kick into your foot keeping your chest lifted.
  • Roll your right hip down so it stays level with the left hip and doesn’t pop up.
  • Reach your left hand forward as you create a bow with your torso and leg.
  • Take five deep breaths through your nose and stretch your upper back and chest.
  • Slowly come down and repeat the same thing on your left side.
  • Practice three repetitions on each side and to improve your balance find one point to focus on.

Wheel Pose

This is another powerful deep backbend to stimulate and heal your heart chakra.

  • Lay on your back and bend your knees so your heels touch your backside.
  • Bend your arms and place your palms on the ground next to your ears.
  • Keep your fingertips pointing toward your shoulders.
  • Press into your hands and feet keeping your elbows in line with your shoulders.
  • Pause at with the top of your head on the ground.
  • Keep pressing into your hands to keep pressure off of the neck.
  • Press into your hands and feet as you exhale to lift your body.
  • Push into your feet to push your body towards your hands and lift your hips up as high as possible.
  • Take five deep breaths here. Slowly come down.
  • Repeat the pose five times.

This requires back and shoulder flexibility which comes over time. Keep practicing and you’ll get it.

Forward Fold

The back of your heart chakra is the area associated with receiving love and the front is the area associated with giving love. It’s important to follow backbends with forward bends to bring your spine back to neutral and to allow this part of the heart chakra to become oxygenated and release stored emotions in the cellular memory.

  • Sit with your legs out in front of you and zip them together.
  • Lengthen from the base of your spine as you lean forward and reach for your toes.
  • Pull your sternum toward your toes and try to keep your legs straight.
  • Breathe deeply five times through your nose and slowly come back up.
  • Repeat this pose three times going a little deeper each time.

Conclusion

There are many more poses that can help heal your heart and I encourage you to experiment with the breathwork in kundalini yoga to help clear your subtle energy field. The breath is a key part of healing your heart because it brings energy into your nervous system to strengthen your whole energetic system.

Kundalini yoga is a powerful type of yoga and it is advised not to practice it if you smoke or drink including the use of marijuana. The yoga itself is powerful enough to alter your state of mind and make you feel great. One type of breathing that you can start with is breath of fire.

Push air out forcefully through the nose as the belly snaps in and let the inhale happen naturally. Start with three minutes and build up to eleven.

There are also mantras that can help heal your heart. My favorites are So Purkh (in Gurmukhi) by Nirinjan Kaur and Ra Ma Da Sa by White Sun. We often think of yoga as just poses but yoga in its traditional sense included mudras (hand positions), breathwork, mantras, and meditation. The poses were only a small part of yoga.

All of these aspects of yoga build positive momentum over time and begin to heal the habitual thought patterns in your brain. Think of it as a long term investment that increases in value with each day you practice. Emotions are a temporary emotional state and we can retrain our brain to notice our emotions and generate positive emotions by practicing meditation.

Yoga will help to open you up to a relationship with your soul through your third eye and crown chakra. When we fall in love with our soul, our attachments in the physical world begin to fall away as our frequency shifts to higher ideals and we experience greater love for all humanity.

Yoga literally means union and if your heart is hurting, I can’t think of a better way to heal than by uniting with your soul.
