So, if you need a little fitness inspiration to get to that Sunday morning workout, convincing yourself you’ll be happier is a good start. And yes, you might not be happy that first morning when your alarm goes off. You have to drag yourself out of bed. You feel barely alive. But it gets better. You get into a rhythm.
Also, you get moving before your brain even knows what’s happening. Plus, there’s a ton of other benefits to morning workouts. Let’s dive in. Set that alarm and get to know these benefits. Finally start utilizing your Sunday mornings!
You can probably think of a million reasons not to workout in the morning. You’re tired. It’s cold outside the bed. Your bed feels nice and warm and snuggly. You just need a few more hours of rest.
Let’s start off by throwing those excuses out the window. Of course you’re tired - you’re still in bed. Get up right away. Don’t hit that snooze button. And if you have an inkling that you’ll really struggle with getting up and getting ready, prepare yourself the night before. Go to bed at a reasonable hour. Lay out your gym clothes and gear. You’ve got this!
And we’ve got tons of reasons why you’ll want to start working out in the morning! Grab this fitness inspiration and run with it. Here are the benefits of getting that morning Sunday sweat session done.
Start Your Day Off With an Endorphin-Boost
Endorphins are the friend you didn’t know you had. They make you feel all-around good. In fact, these guys are considered your natural pain and stress reliever. They act similar to drugs like codeine and morphine - except your body doesn’t experience any ill after-effects. It’s all natural, baby!
And endorphins do even more. They promote feelings of euphoria.
Want to feel good? Exercise is your sure-fire way to where you want to be. Exercise stimulates the release of endorphins (which gives way to why for the most part, you never hear people go on about regretting their last workout).
Basically, move a little this Sunday morning and you’ll feel like a million bucks (probably).
Exercising in the Morning May Help You Lose Weight
Arguably, losing weight depends on a variety of factors. If you’re eating a bad diet loaded with low nutrients and high calories, you probably won’t reach your weight loss goals. And not just that, a variety of conditions and lifestyle components play a role in losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight.
But… exercising in the morning may contribute to getting you closer to your weight loss goals.
How? It gives your metabolism a nice little jolt first thing. And it also forces your body to use fat stores as opposed to blood sugar from carbohydrates recently consumed. The science behind this one is a little finicky.
However, research has surprisingly shown that those who exercise in the morning were more likely to eat less throughout their day. Boom - another point for completing that morning workout.
Morning Workouts Could Be Good for Your Heart
Okay, so technically most forms of exercise that get your heart rate up are good for overall heart and cardiovascular health.
Yet, one study did show that those who exercised around 7 am tended to have a 25% decrease in blood pressure. In turn, they actually had better sleep - who wouldn’t want that?
And, you’ll feel energized to start your day. Another bonus.
Self-Care Workouts You Should Try this Sunday
So, we’ve got the benefits down. But let’s not forget that exercise has a ton more general health benefits as well. Need a miracle pill? Start moving.
But what workout should you try on your Sunday morning?
If you aren’t a morning person, I recommend hitting up a fitness class, like spinning or a cardio group session. It’ll make you sweat and you won’t have to think twice about it. You just show up and follow along.
If you’re more of a morning person and you have an already existing fitness routine, why not try your Monday workout on Sunday morning? The gym is packed on Monday. On Sunday, it’s a little quieter. Get it done before your week has even started.
If you absolutely don’t want to leave your house… try a bodyweight HIIT, high-intensity interval training, workout. Look up a video on YouTube and get ‘er done!
Last but not least, if you really aren’t feeling it, maybe just go for a simple yoga routine. Sign up for an easy class or a soothing and restorative yin yoga class. The goal is to move and sweat just a little.
