Free Yourself: How to Let Go of Negative Self-Talk
Do you wake up already punishing yourself for not getting up earlier? Does constant negative self-talk beat you up throughout the day? It’s time to start enjoying life again and you only have to go within to do that.
While many people think it’s their outside world that determines their happiness, that’s not the case. We are filtering our external reality through our thoughts - thus it’s our thoughts that need management and direction, not our external situations.
Let’s look at first the areas where we may be so used to negative self-talk that we don’t realize we are doing it. Next, let’s look at the behaviours that negative self-talk creates so we can see how unhelpful this mostly unconscious process is. Then we will seize the day and override this negativity with some mood-boosting, self-loving juju.
Ready for this? Before you read on, I really want to you to sense that you’re on the brink of knowing something that will unlock a greater, a much greater, life for you. This is the essence of our identity and our perception of all that is. It’s no small potato!
Understanding Your Negative Self-Talk: Why & Where Does it Come From?
When you interact with your crush or partner, do you constantly tell yourself you’re not good enough, too unattractive, not successful enough, or not as “cool” as someone else? This type of self-sabotage drives people away from you and it is a completely useless use of your energy. If you are doing this before, during, or after your dates and time with your lover, you are stealing your own opportunities to have a deep and fulfilling relationship. You are beautiful, intelligent, kind, and ready to open up. Keep that in your mind and don’t beat yourself up.
Do you find yourself going over and over all the things said or did wrong at work or in social situations? Let it go. In Hollywood, the successful actors don’t nail every audition and wow every casting director. They just let each audition go once they walked out the door and didn’t mull over what they did wrong which would kill their motivation and suck their enthusiasm.
To stay enthusiastic about our personal relationships in work and with family and friends, take Don Miguel Ruiz’s advice “do your best and forget the rest.”
Do you spend your free time on social media mentally comparing your life to the fake illusions of other people’s lives? This can really be an unhealthy exercise and I suggest you just don’t do it. If you want to use social media for inspiration, follow body positivity accounts, activist accounts, and clean up your news feeds of anyone who doesn’t actively add anything positive to your life. You can use social media in healthy ways that allow you to be vulnerable and connect to yourself and others on a soul level instead of letting your thoughts plague you about needing more likes, filters and followers.
What Negative Self-Talk Does To The Mind
Negative self-talk reduces the number of possibilities we can perceive, kills our creativity, and lowers our vibration, attracting negative people and experiences. Conversely, positive self-talk allows us to align ourselves with similar high-vibration people who want everyone to love themselves and have overall good intentions! Your life will change when you see that you’re awesome, capable, and can be successful even when you’re confused, emotional, and inconsistent at times.
Successful and happy people anchor themselves in positivity instead of spending time beating themselves up. Hang out with people who speak positively about themselves and others.
Write out positive things about yourself if a journal and post them on your bathroom mirror, kitchen refrigerator and desk. If you make it a point to change your neural patterns, the ways you think subconsciously, you’ll find life opens up for you. You’ll find a freedom where you love yourself and your life. You’ll find you stop caring what people think and they will start to enjoy your company much more. Imagine not worrying about what you’re wearing, how your hair looks or what type of impression you’re making! The freedom of letting go of negative self-talk will help your life infinitely.
Try it out for a month. Really give it your all and watch how you start to see your potential! Watch how your personal relationships shift. Let’s get giddy and go gaga for ourselves.

Your brain takes about 21 days to form a new habit so make reminders to yourself however you want by putting little notes around you’ll see or having reminders pop up on your phone.
