What Are The Benefits of a Staycation?
Okay, so some people may find staycations boring. Each to their own! And in all honesty, they can be anything but boring. But before we dive into staycation ideas for you to indulge in, let’s assess the benefits.
1. You Save Money - You won’t be dishing out expensive resort fees or money for an excursion. Ever gone on a vacation, then you come home and feel slightly broke? Yeah, staycations don’t leave you with that vacation hangover - in your bank account or in your head. You won’t need a vacation after your vacation with a staycation. Why? Because it rejuvenates you, which leads to our next point.
2. You’ll Actually Feel Relaxed After Your Vacation - Vacations sometimes tend to feel go-go-go. You think you’re going to have a ton of downtime. But then you have sightseeing and more. Plus, it’s all new. Talk about overstimulation. By staying at home, you can simply reset and relax. Use your vacation for what it’s really for - time for you!
3. You Get to Focus on What’s Important To You - Do you ever feel like you just don’t have time for anything you want to do? A staycation is all about that time for you. Finally try out that hobby you’ve been dying to do. Spend more time with your family. Whatever floats your boat! You do you.
4. You’ll Appreciate Your Home and Where You Live That Much More - Have you been dying to check out that brewery down the road? Or maybe you’ve never really been a tourist in your own town. Now’s your chance. Start appreciating where you live a little more. Tour the museums. Or dive into your town’s historic past. Go for brunch at that new hot spot. The time is now.
How to Have a Staycation
You get it. There are tons of benefits to a staycation. It sounds pretty good, right? And yes, once and awhile definitely use your vacation time to travel to new countries and cultures, especially if it’s a passion of yours. But every now and again, a staycation may be exactly what you need.
So, how can you take a staycation? What should you do? What if you get bored? Don’t panic! We’ve got you covered with suggestions galore. Let’s take a look!
Unwind & Relax
First and foremost - and especially if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or stressed lately - take this time to detox. Get rid of your watch and phone. Just be. Wake up slow each day, without the stress of an alarm. Journal. Read. Chill in your yard or home. Make that delicious meal you’ve been dying to try out. Just take it easy.
Most of us don’t get this opportunity very much. So jump at that chance! Maybe even throw in a spa day or a massage for yourself - think of it like a little mini staycation excursion.
And here’s a little tip: Avoid checking your work email. Act like you’re on vacation but at home. Heck, go for it - make that afternoon margherita if you feel like it!
Have a Picnic or Barbecue
Use the time to your advantage. It’s the middle of the week. No one is going to be at that normally busy park. Grab a basket, some snacks, and your family and head out. Maybe even bring a deck of cards, a frisbee, or a ball to throw around while you’re at it!
Check Out Some Local Festivals or Events
What’s happening in your town? Are there any events or festivals that you’d want to check out. Again, now’s the time. It’s all in the benefits of a staycation. And if it’s summer, check out some local free events, like outdoor yoga or markets. Or try out those free admission days at the museums finally!
Nap If You Want To (Because You Can)
Catch up on those Z’s. Lay back in a hammock or take that midday slumber you often crave. No one is going to judge you!
Plan a Big Movie Night
Snacks on snacks on snacks. Invite friends or family. Or go it solo. Remember, this is all about you! So do what you need. Choose the movie you want to watch and plan it, then implement it.
Hit the Biking Trails!
Go for a scenic tour in your own town. Are there spots you’ve never been to but always wanted to explore? Grab that bike and get peddling! You’ll get in a good workout and get the chance to explore your city.
Take Up a New Hobby
Or even take a class. There’s pottery, knitting, art, music, cooking, dance, and more. Choose your poison and do it during your time off.
Dine It Out
It’s unlikely you’ve been to every restaurant in town (unless you live in a very small town). Now that you’re saving money by not spending it on plane rides or hotels, you can put a little bit of that budget toward fine dining or trying new cuisine. Go for ethnic varieties or any new restaurant you’ve been dying to check out.
There are Endless Options for Your Staycation!
Choose any of them! Find something that suits what you need right now. It’s undeniably, the benefits of a staycation stand strong. And in reality, you may need it over a regular vacation anyway. Try it out! Take care of you first. Then, return to work refreshed and relaxed - exactly how a vacation is supposed to be!
