How You Are in Relationships, Based on Your Myers-Briggs Personality

Happiness is rooted in continuous growth and change. And this means understanding yourself and working on yourself more. When you do that, you can bring all of these great attributes about yourself into a relationship and share those with another person. And in this article, we’re going to dig deep into Myers-Briggs relationship strengths and needs.

What does your personality indicate for you when it comes to relationships?

Is there anything you can be doing better?

Let’s find out.

But first, if you haven’t, go ahead and take the Myers-Briggs test. This will help you uncover what type of personality you are and where your own strengths and weaknesses lie.

Your Myers-Briggs Compatibility

The Architect - INTJ-A/INTJ-T

An INTJ personality craves security and intellectual thinking. You love to question and find solutions to big world problems.

And when an INTJ commits, they truly commit. Thus, they require someone who does the same for them. Someone with who they can fully share themselves and have intellectually deep conversations. Maybe you both even love literature, philosophy, and theories.

In relationships, you need that mental connection.

Relationship Tip: INTJ’s can be rather orderly. Thus, healthy communication is key. Make sure you both communicate your expectations and are clear about timeframes, boundaries, and needs.

The Logician - INTP-A/INTP-T

The Logician is very logical. Thus, it can be hard for you to fully understand others and when others are being genuine.

Your rational way of thinking can get in the way of you picking up on subtle hints. On the other hand, you are a very loyal partner.

Relationship Tip: Don’t fear your feelings. Embrace them. Explore them. Sometimes, that gut feeling means something, and our greatest fear for you is ending up in a relationship that isn’t a good match.

Try taking some risks while also assessing how you feel in each relationship you’re in.

The Commander - ENTJ-A/ENTJ-T

As an ENTJ, you thrive in a relationship by making your partner an extension of your life and plans. You love that feeling that you and your partner just “click.”

Yet, you do have a downfall. You tend to overthink, which can lead to some issues in your partnership.

Relationship Tip: When you decide to be with someone, be with them because you choose so. Really feel the present moment with your partner and quit worrying about the future.

Things have a great way of figuring themselves out, especially when you want them to!

The Debater - ENTP-A/ENTP-T

Unfortunately, the ENTP personality tends to not stay in relationships for very long.

You have a dislike for repetition and love rational, logical, and objective thinking. You need to have constant newness when it comes to this logical thinking side of you. And sometimes, it comes off like you just don’t want to commit.

Relationship Tip: The best thing you can do is be open and honest with each partner about what you’re looking for in life. Hopefully, they will do the same. This is where you thrive.

The Advocate - INFJ-A/INFJ-T

As the Advocate, you are people’s go-to for opening up about their feelings and deepest darkest secrets. You make a great partner for this very reason! However, you may feel that your partner just doesn’t get you a lot of the time because you’re so busy understanding them.

Relationship Tip: Be vulnerable. Open up. Let someone see all of you. Only good will come of it. Even if that person right now doesn’t choose you, the right person will in the future.

The Mediator - INFP-A/INFP-T

The INFP is a bit of a romantic. When it comes to your Myers-Briggs love situation, you are a great partner, always looking for the good in others. Yet, sometimes, this can be very unrealistic, setting your partner up for an inevitable downfall.

Relationship Tip: You know you’ve found someone that fits when you don’t make up outlandish and unrealistic expectations or things about them. You know this isn’t fair to your partner, but when the right person comes along, you might actually feel you don’t have to look for the “good,” it just happens to be right there in front of you!

The Protagonist - ENFJ-A/ENFJ-T

The Protagonist is committed to constant growth and evolution. And this means you need a partner who will do the same. As a natural leader, you offer an attractive option to many others.

Relationship Tip: You always tend to invest in another person’s needs, but don’t forget about your own. Make sure you are honest about your needs and expectations so that you can find happiness in your relationship too!

The Campaigner - ENFP-A/ENFP-T

As an ENFP, you love to think outside the box and surround yourself with open-minded individuals. You don’t let relationships limit you, and thus, you might find yourself bouncing from one to the next.

Relationship Tip: According to your Myers-Briggs, compatibility with you comes down to you ensuring you make your partner part of your life. You tend to sway in the wind, but you forget to include your “other half.”

If you are immersed in an activity, let your partner know, so they don’t feel neglected or ignored.

The Logistician - ISTJ-A/ISTJ-T

The Logistician personality is highly caught up in traditions and customs. Your moral compass is a good one which means you bring so much to your relationships. You also tend to take most things fairly seriously, such as time commitments, and you need a partner who does the same.

Relationship Tip: According to your MBTI compatibility calculator, you need to be a tad more flexible. Understand that things and mistakes happen! At the same time, a partner who understands the importance of being on time and calling someone back is very much suited to you and your personality type.

The Defender - ISFJ-A/ISFJ-T

The ISFJ personality offers warmness and the deepest loyalty anyone can ever find. You make an empathetic partner who listens and invests a lot into your relationships. You do well when this is all reciprocated.

Relationship Tip: Communicate your needs! It’s interesting to know that a lot of successful relationships come down to great communication. Make sure you let your partner know what you need in your relationship.

If they are willing to reciprocate, you’ve found your match!

The Executive - ESTJ-A/ESTJ-T

An ESTJ likes stability, control, reliability, and patience. You often know how things will go, which can end up cutting relationships quite short. While you might not come off as a romantic, you firmly believe a good relationship is built on trust and respect.

Relationship Tip: Try to let loose! Quit trying to control every aspect.

Understand that life must play out in its own way and become more present in the moment. Giving your partner that will count for so much. And when it comes down to Myers-Briggs compatibility, it’s probably not a good idea to match up with another ESTJ.

The Consul - ESFJ-A/ESFJ-T

The ESFJ personality is a huge giver and nurturer. You are great at interacting with others and making others happy. However, you might find yourself giving your all without reciprocation. When this happens, you feel deflated and drained.

Relationship Tip: Find someone like you who takes care of others just as much as you do! You work well with other ESFJs or other giving personalities.

The Virtuoso - ISTP-A/ISTP-T

ISTPs may feel stressed when a partner doesn’t understand their need for independence. This can come off as unpredictable to others and can also foster various misunderstandings. You need a partner who also craves independence and balances you out with other personality traits you may not have.

Relationship Tip: Check-in regularly and be as transparent as possible with the balance you require for your relationship, especially your need for alone time. The other person may begin to feel it’s them, but you may need to reassure them that it’s not, and it comes down to your needs.

Relationship Tip: Get creative with your partner! Include them in doing new things and pushing each others’ comfort zones. You need that. And it can bring you two much closer together.

The Entrepreneur - ESTP-A/ESTP-T

As an ESTP, you actually fear commitment. Yet, when you’ve found someone you love and care about, you are willing to put that on display which may even surprise you.

Relationship Tip: You need a match that is just as open to discovery and adventure as you are. This helps lessen your commitment fear and creates an exhilarating and fulfilling relationship for both you and your partner.

The Entertainer - ESFP-A/ESFP-T

The Entertainer loves fun.

After all, you’re an entertainer! You love to show off what you’ve learned, but you have a good balance with warmth, kindness, and generous components to your personality. Your ideal relationship is one that continues to allow you to seek out new things from learning to try new activities.

Relationship Tip: You do well with others who crave adventure and when you have a partner who is just as excited about life as you are! But don’t forget to include them every step of the way.

Sometimes, you can forget to bring them along on adventures. Yet, this is truly where your relationship blossoms.
