How to Create Your Own Anti-Aging Face Mask Using Natural Ingredients

Wrinkles, lines, and crow’s feet are aspects of ageing that people are relatively oblivious to until we hit our late 20s and then suddenly the signs start to appear.

This can often lead to panic and clamouring to get to the drugstore in order to purchase whatever anti-ageing cream or facemask is on display at the time, or browsing feverishly online, only to be confronted with hundreds of miracle-workers that claim to remove wrinkles within 24 hours!

Hold your horses! Many of the anti-ageing products in our stores and online are incredibly expensive and, what’s more, if you look at the ingredients, half of them are completely befuddling to the average person.

The sight of the odd wrinkle here or the sagging jowl there can lead to panic on a number of levels, but there is no reason to fork out wads of cash in order to try and get the situation under control. We must learn to love ourselves – every wrinkle and crease included – the ability to accept growing old gracefully is something that many people struggle with.

It is something that many people do not achieve until they are in their 40s and beyond, I mean, I am in my 30s and still struggling with it. There is nothing wrong with applying some tender loving care to the wrinkly bits especially when you know what’s in the product you are putting on your face.

The Best Homemade Anti-Aging Face Mask Recipes

This is why natural, home-made, anti-ageing facemasks are so wonderful! We can already find much of what we need in the earth’s natural provisions. It would surprise you as to what you can find in your cupboard and fridge, which already have wonderful anti-ageing properties attached to them. What’s more, you’ll know exactly what you’re putting in your home-made remedies.

Coconut Oil, Oats & Avocado Oil Mask

This is a fantastic homemade facemask to try because of the oats make an excellent exfoliator. Exfoliating is important because it removes the dead skin cells and reveals fresh new ones below, which keeps the skin healthy and fresh. If you have sensitive skin, this is also a great alternative to store-bought scrubs that leave your face scratched up and dry.

Coconut oil is practically magical! Once we hit our 30s, our production of collagen (which keeps skin youthful and vibrant) starts to decrease. This is why you’ll see plenty of collagen pills and collagen creams being touted all over the place. However, coconut oil naturally boosts the production of collagen and helps keep skin wrinkle-free and smooth, encouraging skin regeneration.

Avocado oil is another anti-ageing powerhouse, this is because the vitamin c in it also increases collagen production and leaves the skin feeling fresh and moisturized.

How to Make:

Take one teaspoon of coconut oil, one teaspoon of avocado oil and two tablespoons of oats. Mix together and then smear all over face, massaging in the skin for several minutes. Leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.

Smashed Banana & Honey Mask

Bananas are not just yummy things we munch now and then to boost our energy levels. They are rich in anti-oxidants and can revitalize dry skin and smooth out ageing skin, helping to keep wrinkles and fine lines at bay.

Add honey to this mixture and you’ve got something magical. Honey is an excellent anti-ageing ingredient that has antiseptic properties. This means that it will help tackle inflammation and other types of skin problems such as acne and breakouts! This mixture doesn’t only feel amazing, it smells amazing too.

How to Make:

Take one banana and one teaspoon of honey. Mash the banana and then mix with the honey, making sure the mixture is completely mixed. Smear on face and leave for fifteen minutes before rinsing off.

Almond Oil & Avocado Mask

We already know the wonders of avocado and their many anti-ageing properties from the first facemask which has avocado oil in it. Now imagine the powers of a full-blown avocado!

These little things are not just delicious, but in their mashed version they are excellent for the face and warding off fine lines. Avocados have a wonderful way of helping cells to function when they are being attacked by free radicals (the nasty things that contribute to ageing skin and can be found in the air we breathe and the food we eat) and because of this, they have marvellous anti-ageing properties.

Almond oil is another great oil that wards off the wrinkles because it has plenty of vitamin e which counters the loss of collagen in the body. For those who are also concerned about under-eye circles, almond oil is also very good for this area, helping to keep it moist and smooth, reducing the appearance of circles. The under-eye is a delicate area and almond oil is one of the few oils recommended for it.

How to Make:

Take one teaspoon of almond oil and one avocado. Mash the avocado and then drizzle the almond oil over it. Mix the two together and then apply all over face. Leave for 20-25 minutes and then wash off.

Conclusion

Applying these homemade facemasks three or four times a week can create noticeable differences to your skin over time.

You don’t have to fork out loads of money for store-bought products when you have natural home remedies to hand. Often, the earth provides us with exactly what we need and it’s no different when it comes to tackling signs of ageing. We suggest putting one of these masks on, sipping on some green tea, and take a moment to relax. You deserve it!

Remember, a healthy diet, a good exercise regime and a healthy sleep pattern are just as important; combine these with one or more of these excellent homemade facemasks and you’ll be glowing in no time!
