The Best 10 Plants for Your WFH Office

Office plants can bring the great outdoors inside, even while you work! And hey, if you need a mood-pick-me-up, a little bit of greenery can go a long way.

A well-tended plant freshens the air around your workspace. It also adds a sense of style. Plants tend to have a relaxing effect on us, and they don’t take as much maintenance as you might think.

However, it’s important that you get the right kind of plant. Something designed for the outdoors may not thrive inside. And you’ll also want to be extra conscious of where the sun hits in your office space.

Without further delay, here are ten of the best office plants for your home office. Beautiful and easy to care for, they brighten up any workspace.

The Best 10 Plants for Your WFH Office

1. English Ivy

English Ivy may not be the first kind of plant that springs to mind as indoor office plants. However, trailing ivy is a beautiful plant that adds style, softening even the harshest modern offices.

It also doesn’t require too much care (bonus!). English Ivy needs a medium level of light and a reasonable amount of water to survive. If you already have several plants in your home office, English ivy can be a beautiful addition.

2. African Violet

Small and compact African Violets are fabulous low-light office plants. They add a rich pop of color to a room but can survive in low or medium-light levels.

If you don’t have too much space in your home office, African violets may be a good choice. They don’t take up much space and are known for being hardy plants. However, you shouldn’t place these plants in direct sunlight.

And you’ll want to take extra care when watering them, as the fuzzy leaves may rot if they get wet.

3. Aloe Vera Plant

Succulents are always an excellent choice, particularly if you have a track record of killing your house plants! An Aloe Vera plant only needs watering every few weeks. In fact, too much water is generally bad for succulents.

That means that you can stick your Aloe plant on your desk and forget about it for a week or two. However, aloes do need plenty of bright light to thrive, making it a definite no-go for low-light office plants (sorry guys!).

4. Lucky Bamboo

Elegant, beautiful, and surprisingly not related to genuine bamboo plants, this is another lovely addition to your home office. Lucky bamboo plants do well in low-light offices, and they grow slowly.

This is something important to think about when choosing indoor office plants.

You don’t want to buy plants for your home office only to find they’re growing far too tall for your workspace! If you’re unsure whether a plant will fit well in your home office when it’s fully grown, do some research first. This can help you gauge what works and what doesn’t.

5. ZZ Plant

The ZZ plant is another easy to care for succulent, perfect for beginners. Like many other plants, the leaves do a great job of reflecting light and making your workspace seem brighter.

Your ZZ plant will need indirect light, and it doesn’t need regular watering. Like many succulents, this plant does much better without constant watering. It’s best to wait until the soil is dry before giving your ZZ plant a good drink.

6. Chinese Evergreen

Depending on which type of Chinese Evergreen you choose, this plant has beautiful, vivid colors and wide leaves. The pink-hued variety is a great way to bring a pop of color to a bland workspace.

Like succulents, the Chinese Evergreen requires watering only when its soil is dry. They require plenty of low to medium light and don’t particularly enjoy direct sunlight. However, if you’ve got the right light for it, these guys make some of the best office plants around!

7. Snake Plant

The bold, tall leaves of the snake plant are rapidly making it a household favorite.

Perfect to sit on or beside your desk, and this is an easy plant to care for. The snake plant is tough and hardy (interestingly, it’s also known as “mother-in-law’s tongue) and requires only a weekly watering to survive.

However, beware. Snake plants can grow very tall. The cute little desk plant you thought wouldn’t take up much room can quickly take over your whole workspace. At the same time, these make good office plants since they can take a little bit of neglect.

8. Maranta

If you’re getting tired of green, a Maranta can give a lush, vibrant feel among your other indoor office plants. Their leaves are wide and patterned, striped with red and green.

They do need regular watering and can take up more space than a more compact plant. A Maranta requires some light but prefers indirect sunlight, which might work great for most office spaces.

9. Parlor Palm

If you love tropical greenery, you’ll love the Parlor Palm. These beautiful plants add freshness to any office simply by being there.

Once again, these plants prefer underwatering to overwatering. If possible, place your Parlor Palm in bright, indirect light. However, they can survive in low to medium indirect light. These can even make great plants for your home office if you so choose.

10. Pothos

Last but not least, we have the Pothos plant. Sturdy and almost laid-back, this plant can survive most levels of indirect light, and they prefer dry soil before watering.

Depending on the type of Pothos plant you choose, their foliage will have different colors. Speckled with white and green, their broad, waxy leaves give a fresh lift to a workspace’s decor. As they grow, their vines like to spread out.

Add That Splash of Green!

No one will be shocked to hear that working can be very stressful. However, the effect of greenery and foliage can be incredible. Plants work to clear and freshen the air. They give a sense of calm and bring incredible beauty to any home office.

On top of this, taking a break to water and care for your plants can be a refreshing and peaceful experience. It can be just what you need to collect yourself and refocus. Then you can return to work collected, inspired, and ready to continue with your day!

So… go ahead and get those office plants you’ve been dreaming of! Maybe your productivity will even improve because of it.
