Honey Brie and Basil Appetizers

Feed Your Body Friday: Sweet Honey, Brie & Basil Appetizers

Whether it’s a get together with family or friends, here’s a recipe that’s easy and quick to make and is sure to please everyone. Best of all, these appetizer bites only take 10 minutes of prep work and 10 minutes of cooking.

For these bites, my cheese of choice is brie, a type of cheese that offers a creamy soft dough and a pronounced flavor of milk and hazelnuts. You, however, can choose any soft cheese that you want for these appetizers.

The other main ingredient in these appetizer bites is honey, a sweet substance made by bees using the nectar of flowers. Composed of more than 80% carbohydrates, these little bites are rich in pure energy. In fact, there are two main sugars working together here: fructose and glucose, simple sugars that require no digestion before absorption and are easily and directly absorbed by the body.

The best thing about honey is that it contains the same amount of sugar or calories as other sweetening agents like brown sugar or maple syrup, but due to its stronger sweetening power, you don’t need to use as much as you would with other sweeteners. Also, because it has a lower glycemic index, it remains a better choice for people with diabetes.

Give these sweet, cheesy, healthy appies a try! And make sure you grab a handful if you’re serving these at a function; their freshness, sweetness, and crunchy texture will make them disappear in a heartbeat!
