How to Make Homemade Everything Bagel Buns

Everything bagel seasoning is everywhere! You no longer have to order a whole bagel to get the delicious taste of onion, sea salt, poppy seeds, and sesame seeds.

From salads to salmon, hashbrowns to soups - this is a seasoning combination that is guaranteed to improve every meal you make - including buns for burgers, sandwiches, and snacks.

Yum.

These bagel buns will taste just like the ones you get at your favorite bakery, but better because they’re guaranteed fresh. And the best part is that they’re easy to make and ready to eat in just over an hour and a half.

You can use a stand mixer for this recipe or mix the dough by hand. Don’t be too precious about forming your bagel buns. The shape won’t contribute to the taste!

You can double your batch to make a few trays at a time if you’re baking for a crowd. If you somehow manage to end up with leftovers, they will keep fresh for about two days after baking if you wrap them up tightly. They generally don’t last that long without getting eaten, though.

How to Make Homemade Everything Bagel Buns

Preparation: 1.5 hours

Cook time: 20 minutes

Servings: 8 buns

Two bagel buns sit on a counter. One is whole and the other is cut in half to show the soft inside of the roll.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp quick dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp everything bagel spices

Preparation & Cooking

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400˚F.

Step 2

In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the water. Add salt and oil.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour and stir with a wooden spoon. When the dough starts to be more difficult to work, continue with your hands for about 5 minutes to obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough, but soft and sticky.

Step 4

Cover and let stand 1 hour at room temperature.

Step 5

Fold the dough 20 times and place it on a floured board.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll the pieces into little buns. Place them on a greased baking sheet, leaving a space of 3 cm between each.

Step 7

Leave to rise for 15 minutes near the oven. Brush with the beaten eggs in 2 tbsp of water and sprinkle with everything bagel spices.

Step 8

Bake and cook for 20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.

Step 9

Let cool on a rack and enjoy!
