As we move closer to 2020, there’s probably a lot on our collective minds. A lot happened in the past year, and there’s quite a bit to mentally sift through and appropriately comprehend. But with the end of one year comes the promise of a new one, the gift of new beginnings and exciting possibilities that we can’t even imagine yet.

That’s right, the New Year is approaching, and most of us are in preparation mode for one of the greatest party nights of the year: New Year’s Eve - and with it, probably a few too many cocktails.

Guess what? You don’t have to go breaking the resolutions you haven’t even made yet, because we’ve got a list of delicious, low-calorie cocktails to prepare for your big New Year’s bash.

Watermelon Melonita

This is the perfect cocktail for those who like the refreshing flavours of watermelon and margarita combined. This drink pairs perfectly with chips and salsa, or really any appetizer you might serve.

Serving Size: 1

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lime
  • Mint
  • Raw Sugar
  • 1 1/2 ounce of tequila blanco
  • 1/2 ounce of Cointreau or other citrus liqueur
  • Watermelon juice (You can also puree your own watermelon at home.)

Preparation

  1. Rim a margarita glass with salt and fill with ice.
  2. Muddle lime, mint, sugar, and alcohol and pour over ice.
  3. Top with watermelon juice of your choice.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

Grapefruit Spritzer

  • 2 ounces of vodka
  • Grapefruit-flavoured seltzer

  • 1 lime, halved

  • Brut champagne (or sparkling white wine)
  • Quartered Strawberries (chilled)

  1. Place 2-3 pieces of strawberry in the bottom of a champagne glass.

Moscow Mule

While ginger beer isn’t exactly calorie-free, this cocktail is still relatively harmless compared to many that you’ll find circulating this time of year. (We’re looking at you, alcoholic eggnog.) Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of vodka
  • 1 ounce of lime juice
  • 1 (12 oz.) can of ginger beer
  • Mint and lime for garnish

Preparation

  1. Fill two copper mugs with ice.
  2. Pour vodka and ½ ounce of lime juice in each mug.
  3. Top with ginger beer and serve with mint and lime for garnish.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

The Bloody Mary

  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of honey
  • 1 1/2 ounce of gin
  • 3 ounces of club soda/seltzer

  1. In your favourite cocktail glasses, muddle rosemary, lemon juice, and honey together.
  2. Top with ice, gin, and club soda.
