A Rebirth Ritual for the Autumn Equinox
How excited do you feel on the very first day of fall? This time of the year is a favorite for many, and we’re here today to talk about a ritual that can help you feel grounded and get pumped for the shifting autumnal energy before us.
The autumn equinox is upon us in the Northern hemisphere, and we’re all getting excited for crisp, golden leaves, chilled air, and all-things-pumpkin!
But have you ever thought about celebrating the fall equinox with a ritual of your very own? When the seasons change, we feel a sense of transformation or starting over. Things are new, there are fresh possibilities to explore, and the pain and conflict of the past are melting away along with the warm weather.
It doesn’t matter what you believe in or what your spiritual practice is (or isn’t!) – a ritual to celebrate the changing seasons is always healing. Setting your intentions to appreciate the season is a fantastic way to set yourself up for success this fall.
So, if an autumn equinox ritual is something that speaks to your spirit, keep reading!
Why Should You Perform a Rebirth Ritual for the Autumn Equinox?
Rebirth is traditionally known as the process of being reborn or reincarnated – but in a personal or spiritual sense, this is a time to let go of things (relationships, habits, emotions) that are no longer serving you and step into your new form.
A new season is a perfect time to practice a ritual that focuses on rebirth and starting over because the energies surrounding you are already shifting and transforming – the perfect environment for your own transformation.
While we’re going to lay out a step-by-step ritual guide here, it’s important to note that this can be personalized or customized in any manner you see fit. If we include a crystal that you don’t have or prefer not to work with, switch it out for one that speaks to you!
Similarly, if a step doesn’t delight you or fill your spirit with a sense of joy, feel free to replace it with something that seems more your style or speed.
Without further ado, let’s get right to the ritual.

Rebirth Ritual Supplies
You will need a few supplies for this ritual, but again, many of these items can be replaced if you do not already own them.
For this ritual, you will need:
- A journal or notebook
- A writing instrument
- Soothing (portable) music
- A candle (suitable for outdoor use)
- A space outdoors within which you feel comfortable, secure, and where you will be left alone
- A blanket (optional)
- A small metal bowl
- A bottle of water
- A small tool for digging (even a spoon would work)
Rebirth Ritual Steps
Before you begin this ritual, it’s essential to balance your energy in whatever manner feels comfortable for you. You might choose a meditation, a few minutes of yoga, a quick run, a ritual bath – engage in a practice that helps you feel grounded and centered.
Gather your supplies and head to your sacred space in the great outdoors. Mother Nature is changing her colors along with us, so it’s important to include her in this practice.
Start by lighting your candle, laying out your blanket (if you brought one), and getting seated in a comfortable position.
The first thing you’ll do is take a few moments – anywhere from five minutes to one hour is appropriate. Follow your instincts – to focus your eyes on the flame and let your mind connect to the Universal energies surrounding you.
During this time, think about the summer season and all of the experiences, connections, confrontations, adventures, good and bad times, and everything in between that took place during the last season. What were the highlights? What moments felt magical? What moments would you love to experience again?
Remember to include those more challenging moments as well. What situation felt impossible to overcome? What argument hit you the hardest? Which moment felt the most painful?
All of these experiences – the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful – are essential parts of life. But through concentration and setting your intentions, you can start to manifest more of those moments that make you feel grounded, appreciated, loved, supported by the Universe.

Now it’s time to take those memories and turn them into intentions. Once you feel that you have sufficiently digested those important moments from the previous season, grab your journal and pen.
You’re going to make two lists (feel free to workshop these titles if they’re not working for you):
- What I’m Letting Go Of
- What I’m Attracting into My Life
Start by making a list of everything you want to release right now under the first is. Leave no ugly or negative stone unturned!
Consider what you want to let go of. Perhaps you’re thinking of:
- Toxic habits
- Relationships that are bringing you down more than lifting you up
- Emotional responses that are no longer serving you
- Addictions that get in the way of your happiness.
Once your let-go list is complete, it’s time to turn your attention toward the law of attraction for your second list. On a separate sheet of paper, start noting everything you want to manifest. Write everything you can think of down now and be as specific as possible.
- What is it that you want more of in life?
- What do you want to do with your autumnal adventures?
- How do you want this season to look like for you?
3. The Last Steps
You’re going to do two very important things with those pieces of paper you just wrote on, so tear them out of your notebook now.
Grab your metal bowl and pour your water into it. Take the list of things you’d like to release and use the flame of your candle to light the page, burning it over the bowl of water until it is nearly dissolved. Once it is nearly burned entirely, place it in the water to extinguish the flame.
Pour the water into the soil around you to represent Mother Nature taking your pain, your hurt, and your negative experiences from you and turning them into new growth and fresh life.
Now, take your digging tool (whether it’s a spoon or a trowel), and start digging a hole just big enough for a folded piece of paper. Fold your paper exactly three times, place it in the hole, and bury it with soil.
This represents planting the seeds of your ideas within the Earth, so you can watch them grow later in your own life.
With that, take a moment to practice gratitude and appreciation for all the Universe has given to and done for you.
It’s Time to Manifest an Amazing Autumn
The shifting of seasons reminds us that life is cyclical – there is always a new beginning to follow an end.
This rebirth ritual will help you set your intentions for the fall while ensuring that you aren’t carrying any negativity or pain from the last season into autumn with you. You have all the magic you need within you, and this ritual will help you tap into that.
What will you do with your magic?
