Daily Inspiration for the Mind
A daily meditation practice can relieve stress and reset your mental state.
Those who practice regular meditation had higher brain activity in the areas that deal with stress and concentration. Healthy ways to manage stress can help ease depression and anxiety. Making meditation more accessible has even been suggested as part of Canada's mental health strategy.
Meditate for 5 minutes each morning to calm your mind. Be kind to yourself. Make your mental health a priority!
Are you fully leaning on your support network when you have reached the end of your rope?
It might sound obvious, but many of us don't share our worries or concerns with the ones we love most. Maybe we don't want to burden them, or perhaps we want to always appear to be in control, which might actually be contributing to more stress.
You don't have to run sobbing to your best friend every week, but opening up about what you've been struggling with, even just to review what's happening in your life, is a necessary release, and sharing can provide you with important new perspectives.
Feeling mediocre? Take a quick moment to sit with your soul and remind yourself that you have the choice to be super excited about life right now.
Think about what a miracle it is that you're here. Let your soul come into your heart and lift your spirits with its soothing frequency.
Feel love all around you and your connection to everything. Feel supported by the energy that connects us all. You are beaming, sharing smiles, and ready to meet blessings around every corner. The sides of your mouth turn up because you know the secret!
If you're feeling particularly stressed, are you asking for help from those around you? There's a pretty good chance someone you know has been through what you're facing, especially a sibling or family member.
Admitting when we are overwhelmed can provide release, build a bond between you and who you share your feelings with, and ultimately, help you find new ways to cope.
What's the difference between stress and anxiety? While the two definitely overlap when it comes to the physical repsonses they generate, the short answer is, yes, they are different.
They can be separated by the way they make us feel and where those feelings come from. Day to day stress can make us feel frustrated or even nervous, while with anxiety, we may feel more fear, uneasiness and worry.
Did you know there is a link between our physical health and our mental health? Our physical health outwardly reflects our mental health and vice versa. Physical activity can boost your mood and increase your self-confidence.
To reap the benefits, exercise 20-30 minutes every day. It can be as simple as a walk on your lunch break or biking to and from work. You will feel better after your sweat session and be ready to tackle any problem that comes your way!

Downing extra highballs before bed can certainly make you sleepy, but the effects of alcohol on your sleeping patterns is not so beneficial. Drinking too much of anything before you sign out for the night is going to make it more likely you'll have to wake up to relieve yourself before your alarm goes off, but alcohol is the biggest offender.
Alcohol supresses the release of ADH (Antidiuretic Hormone), whose job is to tell our kidneys to keep more fluid in than out - keeping us properly hydrated and taking more regular bathroom breaks. When we consume alcohol, it prevents the ADH from storing the extra fluid and - here's where 'break the seal' comes into play - we start a cycle of drinking and peeing for the rest of the night. Until that alcohol is out of your system and you are sufficiently rehydrated, expect to get up a few more times throughout the night!
Did you know that watermelon contributes to good body hydration and promotes weight loss?
Watermelon is among the most moisturizing fruits because it’s composed of over 92% water. Water plays a vital role in the elimination of toxins, the regulation of the body, the temperature, the nutrient supply and the oxygenation of cells.
Watermelon should be part of your menu, especially if you want to lose weight. With its great wealth of water, fiber and antioxidants, it will help keep your stomach full for a long time and at the same time contribute to the detoxification of your body.
If you're having trouble sleeping, consider experimenting with smells in your bedtime routine. Introducing scents like bergamot, lavendar, jasmine, sandalwood chamomile and rose at some point in your evening as you wind down could be tremendously helpful in getting a good night's rest.
It can be as easy as lighting a scented candle in your room an hour before bed or in your bathroom (Don't leave them unattended though!) to infuse your space with soothing aromas. Scented oils in your bath or cream can make an imprint, or you could simply rub some oil on your wrists and take some deep, slow breaths to start relaxing.
Did you know that adding a little fat with your veggies helps the absorption of vitamins and minerals, such as beta-carotene in carrots? Not to mention unsaturated fats - olive oil, nuts, avocados and fish - which have positive effects on cholesterol and cardiovascular health.
Having trouble drinking enough water? Here are some combinations of ingredients for those who do not like the taste of still water:
- Fresh mint leaves with sliced cucumbers
- Sliced fresh strawberries with sliced basil leaves
- Oranges, grapefruit, limes or lemons
-Sliced pear and green apple slices
- Blueberries, raspberries, fresh rosemary, and ginger
So many possible combinations that will add some natural sweetness and add some vitamins to your water.
